There are signs that your central heating system needs a professional clean.
Pro Powerflushing has been clearing blocked heating systems across Salford and Greater Manchester since 1999. We’re Gas Safe registered (No. 555837), trained and certified by Kamco, and trusted by over 174 Salford and North West homeowners who’ve left us five-star reviews on Google.
Salford has a mix of housing stock — Victorian terraces in the older areas, post-war semis, and newer builds throughout the regenerated areas. Older properties in particular are very likely to have years of sludge and corrosion build-up sitting in the pipework, restricting flow and costing you money every month on your gas bill.

SLOW HEATING RESPONSE
is one of the symptoms you need a powerflush on your central heating system, this is usually spotted when radiators take a long period if time to heat up or you dont get the heat out of them required, call us for free advice.

PUMP NOISES
If you are hearing strange noises coming from your central heating pump, surges grating then this is a clear sign that your pump is struggling and becoming blocked with sludge then a powerflush is wise and can save the cost of replacing the pump.

BOILER NOISES
One of the signs that sludge and debris is building up is weird noises coming from the boiler, bangs and sudden surges can be heard if so then an inspection and powerflush of the system will solve this and be cheaper than a new boiler!

POOR HOT WATER
If you are finding that when you turn the tap on fully it’s running cold for a long period of time or goes cold when fully open then a powerflush is of benefit as this is a sign that the boiler is having a problem creating hot water.

POOR CIRCULATION
Another common problem is the central heating system pipes get clogged up with sludge and debris.Below is a more detailed diagram showing symptons which indicate a central heating system that can benefit from a power flush, were all for educating our clients so they know what they should look for.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
Signs Your Salford Heating System Needs Attention
Let’s face it your here as you have central heating issues, your not here for fun as you have better things to do in life:
- Radiators warm at the top but are cold at the bottom – sludge has settled and is blocking the lower half
- One or more radiators never heat up properly – restricted circulation to that part of the system
- Boiler making banging, kettle-like or gurgling noises – debris around the heat exchanger
- Hot water that’s slow to arrive – the system is working harder than it should be
- Boiler locking out or cutting out frequently – a sign of restricted flow
- Dark or murky water when bleeding a radiator – visible contamination
- Energy bills rising without explanation – reduced system efficiency burns more gas for the same heat output, well, some of it is UK GOV Net zero costs!
If your system has more than one of these symptoms, the chances are high that a powerflush will solve them all in a single visit!
What Happens During a Salford Powerflush
We connect our Kamco powerflush machine directly to your central heating system and use high-velocity water flow and professional cleaning chemicals to break up and flush out the accumulated sludge, rust and scale that’s been building up over the years.
Every radiator is cleaned individually. The pipework, pump and boiler heat exchanger are all flushed through. At the end, we dose the system with a corrosion inhibitor to protect it going forward — without it, the sludge starts building up again relatively quickly.
The whole process takes four to six hours for a typical Salford three-bedroom house. You’ll usually notice the difference the same evening — radiators heating up faster and more evenly, less noise from the boiler, and the house warming up quicker when you put the heating on.
We work to BS7593, the British Standard for the treatment of water in domestic hot water central heating systems. This is the standard boiler manufacturers specify to maintain warranty cover.

Power Flushing FAQs
My Salford house is Victorian — is it too old to powerflush?
Generally, no. Victorian properties often have older, larger-bore pipework, which can actually be easier to flush than modern narrow-bore systems. The more important question is the condition of the joints and fittings — something we can assess when we look at the system.
How do I know if I have microbore pipes?
Microbore pipes are 8mm or 10mm in diameter — noticeably thinner than standard 15mm or 22mm copper pipe. Homes built between approximately 1985 and 2000 are most likely to have them. If you’re not sure, send us a photo of your pipework and we can tell you.
How much does a power flush cost?
This all depends on the size of your system, i.e., the number of radiators. To give you a good price, it’s best to have a chat with us as we need to ask questions to get you a clear, definitive answer.
Are you Gas Safe Registered?
Yes We are fully trained qualified and certified and insured to work on gas appliances, our gas-safe number is 555837

Can you fit a magnetic filter at the same time?
Yes. We recommend fitting a Magnaclean or similar magnetic filter after a powerflush to keep the system clean going forward. It’s straightforward to add on the same visit.
How often does a central heating system need powerflushing?
A well-maintained system with a corrosion inhibitor and a magnetic filter can go 10 to 15 years between flushes. A system that’s never been treated may need attention sooner.
Think of it like your car engine, if not regularly serviced as per manufacturers reccomendations, then issues with the engine can happen.
